Traitor’s Blade

MY RATING: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This was a fantastic start to what I’ve heard is an amazing series. I wish I had picked this up long before now! Joe Jameson does an incredible job with the audio!
Falcio tells this story in both 1st & 2nd person (similar to that of Kvothe in the Kingkiller Chronicles), it really helps you connect even more to the story. Falcio, Brasti and Kest each have their own quirks that make them lovable in different ways. The banter between the 3 is fantastic and will have you giggling on many occasions throughout the story.
The fight scenes are detailed with strategic moves throughout, there’s even a point where there’s a pause and Falcio describes what he can and can’t do in a mathematical type of scenario, very reminiscent of a movie scene in Sherlock Holmes with Robert Downey Jr.

β€œJudge fair, ride fast, fight hard.”

Maybe the only thing that there could’ve been more of was the world building, however, it is very obvious the timeline is based fairly close to that of 3 Musketeers (which took place in 1625 in Paris)so you don’t really need to have a lot described to you to understand it.
There is also very little magic so far in the series, it was close to 50% before we started getting any kind of magic and even then it was a simple device. Later on we get a little more added in, but the lack of it doesn’t hurt the story or characters at all. This is not a criticism, just pointing it out for other readers that have not read this yet.

β€œMy name is Falcio val Mond first Cantor of the Greatcoats, and this was only the first of a great many bad days to come.”

Knight’s Shadow

MY RATING: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Knight’s Shadow is a beautiful sequel to Traitor’s Blade. I’m struggling at what to write because there is so much I loved about it and next to nothing that I hated. The attention to detail in the fighting scenes, the twists, the Battle at Garniol, and so much more. Plus, Joe Jameson does another great job with the audio.

β€œThe truth that makes our courage fail and our hearts surrender. What we fear most is simply ourselves.”

Like Traitor’s Blade, I was giggling a ton with the banter between Falcio, Kest & Brasti, I just can’t get enough of which reminds me so much of the convos I have with my brother and friends.
The scene was the epitome of grim meets dark, and might be the best in the book, and there are many great scenes!

β€œWords matter. Without words you can’t have stories and without stories we would have never heard of the Greatcoats.β€œ

Saint’s Blood

MY RATING: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I absolutely loved this book and the audio by Joe Jameson! De Castell is a master of his craft. At this point it’s very easy to say that I am a big fan of de Castell’s work. Saint’s Blood continues the trend of excellent story and characters that I just can’t get enough of.
Saint’s Blood starts 4 months after the events of Knights Shadow. A new enemy emerges in Tristia killing Saints. The Greatcoats must solve the mystery of who this new mysterious enemy is, with new enemies, brings new allies.

β€œThose hands of violence – hands meant only for holding swords and for shedding blood…”

Tyrant’s Throne

MY RATING: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

My emotions could barely handle this incredible finale. I have some favorite series that I’ve read, but this might be sitting at the very top now. I am a 35 year old man and this book made me cry multiple times.

β€œF*** anyone who ever doubts the purpose of daring acts of heroism”

From the moment I started reading and listening, I had issues with putting it down to go to sleep. There is so much to love about it that I couldn’t begin explain it all, and if I could give more than 5 stars, I absolutely would! The final battle was amazing, and I must say it would be one of my favorite battle scenes to be brought to screen, and that NEEDS to happen! It’s different but was exhilarating. I need this in my life! Lol
