MY REVIEW

Waybound was one of the top books that I was looking forward to reading this year, and I’m sure it was for everyone that has been on the Cradle train as well! As I returned to the world of Cradle for the final time, I wasn’t sure if my heart was ready for what was in store, but I have to say, Will absolutely knocked this one out of this world! There was a war raging inside of me wanting to keep reading and reading to see what all would happen, against the other part of me that wanted to milk Waybound as long as possible. I finished it in 10 days which, to me is actually a pretty long time for something I was whispersyncing because I couldve easily finished this in 2-3 days, but knowing it was the final book in the series, I had to make it last just a little bit longer because I just wasn’t ready for this journey to be over.

Speaking of whispersync, the incomparable Travis Baldree, did what he always does and gave a phenomenal performance as narrator and I couldn’t have asked for anything more. Wight has always been exceptional at his character development, but where Lindon has always kinda been a character that I always felt needed others characters to help carry him through scenarios like Eithan and Dross. I did feel like this was the very best of who Lindon was and I absolutely loved him. Dross of course continues to deliver lines that had me rolling, Ziel, Mercy, Little Blue and Orthos all had great moments as well, but Yerin might be the best, and what makes hers the best comes near the end. Did I fist pump? Maybe I did. She has always been a great character, but the way her story ends, feels like perfection.

“If Ziel taps into the Joy Icon, I will give up forever, because the world no longer makes sense..”

I was stuck on this from line one, all the way to the last word in the epilogue, which you absolutely need to stay for, and it sent me on a wide range of emotions, the laughter will always be there, I can’t count the amount of times I giggled at something that one of the characters said, especially Dross who continues to be the best comedic relief character ever. But the one that honestly shocked me the most was that it actually got me to tear up for a moment during a part that I wasn’t really expecting to have that kind of emotion, which just made me love it even more, because that’s probably the one thing I had yet to happen during this entire series. Gratitude.

Will was able to tell such a fantastic story with so much action in this final book. Through the training, and the battle with monarchs and dreadgods, this had action-galore that had me on the edge of my seat seething for more. The final few chapters added in an even cooler element to the story, that one could only hope turns into a sequel series, because I know I need more of this world now that it’s all over. Just like Waybound was an epic battle finale, it will be in another epic battle at the end of the year when I make my tops list, because there is a huge battle between this and two others for the top spot, and it’s only June!
