⚠️ NO TOP 10 OR 15 THIS YEAR ⚠️

There are 14 categories for favorites, plus the Top overall read of 2024.
Re-reads are still excluded.

What a wonderful year it has been, not only did I read 56 incredible books, I also got to meet a bunch of wonderful people because of the trip they made to Arlington, TX for Pantego Books, including Mike Zepp of Mike’s Book Reviews, author of the Sun Eater Saga, Christopher Ruocchio and my friend and author of The Bound and the Broken, Ryan Cahill. I also got to hangout with them all day long while they recorded a podcast in the hotel room, introduced Ryan to Texas bbq at Hurtado’s, enjoyed the q&a with fans of both series at the Arlington Theatre and then hung out at the Tiki Lounge afterwards! It was a day I’ll never forget!

I love StoryGraph for its charts. It does such a good job of keeping track of things like mood, average rating, most read and genres, like the pictures below!

WITH THAT SAID, ON TO THE CATEGORIES!

This was a pretty easy decision to make, though there were a couple others that I really liked, Daniel Kamarudin & Shawn T. King did their thing once again putting out another cover of this series that just pops out at you and ooze coolness.

This was such an easy choice, though there were several great narrators to choose from, Roukin was phenomenal, like A++++ phenomenal! His character voices and the way he felt like he was just as much into the story as the reader/listener is, made it soooo much better!

This was another easy decision for me to make, though there’s a lot of bad people in the series, the Cielcin take the cake as the baddest of the baddies, and easily the baddest baddies I’ve read all year!

Yeah, we’re doing it again! Ruocchio not only delivered my favorite villain, but also my favorite character! Not liking Hadrian has to be a sin!

Ok, maybe I’m a little biased on this since there is a character/species named after yours truly. This is probably one of the happiest moments I can receive! Last year Krystle Matar named a character Dell, after me, in her Tainted Dominion series. This year, I get a full blown WOLFMANTULA name drop!

This is the only part I’ll put, but there’s more to it, so read the book & series to find out:
“It hissed with splayed jaws and Merion quickly re-coiled.
‘Wolfmantula, Lilain explained”

MY REVIEW: The Shadow Glass

I only graded this as a 4.25, and that was mainly due to the narration, but this was honestly such a fun story and a throwback to 80’s nostalgia! Since I wasn’t a big fan of the narration, I recommend doing it without for a better experience!

MY REVIEW: Undead Samurai

This was just incredible! One of my FIVE STAR reads of the year and a well deserved place as my favorite self-published stand alone novel. It’s an epic tale of terrifying action, but at its core is a tragically beautiful tale of honour and redemption.

This is technically a short story, but I’m going to include it in the Novella section regardless. I love everything by Cahill, so it’s no surprise that I would put this story here. TBTBTWS is a peaceful, feel-good tale of a familiar family with a little razzle dazzle, of typical Cahill intensity, that always hits the spot.

I love de Castell and anything he writes, especially in the Swashbuckling world of Tristia and on top of that, one of my favorite narrators, Joe Jameson, is back! I can’t say how much I love this world, and now to do it with a new ensemble makes it even more interesting!

I actually wanted to put A Pack of Wolves, book 5 of The Drowned Kingdom here since I read the ARC, but because the cover has yet to be released, I decided to put another 5 star read by PL here, A Lion’s Pride! If you haven’t read this saga yet, I HIGHLY recommend it!

With my favorite narrator of the year, villain and character, is it any surprise that I would choose a book from the Sun Eater Saga?

Rob J. Hayes is one of my auto-reads. I have yet to read something by him that I didn’t love, and TH3 isn’t any different. This is such a great series and so fun to read… it also has a great narrator as well!

Based on what everyone else had to say, I knew I was going to like this book, but I was not expecting to be blown away the way I was. I loved everything about this, it had a great story, great characters and a great narration. It was everything a reader could hope for!

This book and series had been on my list for a while and for no reason at all, I just kept pushing it back and back, until I finally decided to give it a shot. This is easily the best Robin Hood story there is available, it’s true to the original ballads while being updated in a fresh way that McKay makes his own.

Before we get to the TOP READ of the YEAR… here are all 56 books I read in 2024!

AND NOW… THE TOP READ!

This was a very difficult decision that I had to make. Yes, it has my favorite narrator, villain and character as well as favorite Sci-Fi, but I’ve made a great selection of books to read this year and finished with 17 FIVE STAR READS! Yeah… you read that correctly, SEVENTEEN! There were also several 4.75 star reads that I gave a slight knock based on narration issues that I could’ve easily given five stars too as well, so it was no easy choice to make. But alas, the penultimate book of the Sun Eater saga by Christopher Ruocchio is what I decided was the best, of the best of 2025!
