BOOK DESCRIPTION
Revenge. It’s something Sigrud je Harkvaldsson is very, very good at. Maybe the only thing.
So when he learns that his oldest friend and ally, former Prime Minister Shara Komayd, has been assassinated, he knows exactly what to do—and that no mortal force can stop him from meting out the suffering Shara’s killers deserve.
Yet as Sigrud pursues his quarry with his customary terrifying efficiency, he begins to fear that this battle is an unwinnable one. Because discovering the truth behind Shara’s death will require him to take up arms in a secret, decades-long war, face down an angry young god, and unravel the last mysteries of Bulikov, the city of miracles itself. And—perhaps most daunting of all—finally face the truth about his own cursed existence.

MY REVIEW
What else can I say except that this was an incredible finale to a great series. Bennett does such a great job of wrapping you around his finger and taking us on a magical journey. We follow Sigrud as he investigates the murder of Ashara Komayd. Sigrud is one of my favorite characters in all of fantasy, he’s just one of those guys you want to see win. Through his investigations he meets new and old people while dealing with a new powerful enemy that is hellbent on remaking the world to his own liking.
”It is a fool who lives his life believing the waves upon which he sails shall remember him. The seas know nothing. This makes them beautiful. And this makes them terrible.”
Robert Jackson Bennett has such beautiful prose and his attention to detail in everything he does makes this such a great read. The story is gripping and keeps you on the edge of your seat, all the characters are great and so well written. But the ending, wow, the ending brought me to tears. I had to take some time to collect myself to write the review after finishing it.
